Mandatory Credit: Kyle Ross-USA TODAY Sports Houston Astros rookie right-hander Spencer Arrighetti had his bid for a no-hitter stymied in the eighth inning of Wednesday's game against the host Philadelphia Phillies.
Philadelphia's Austin Hays led off the eighth inning with an infield single. He hit a grounder into the hole and was able to beat the throw by Houston shortstop Jeremy Pena.
The Astros were leading 10-0 in the eighth.
Arrighetti, making his 24th career start, struck out 11 and walked four over 7 2/3 innings. He also gave up a single to Trea Turner with two outs in the eighth to end his outing.
He threw 65 of 103 pitches for strikes as he chased Houston's second no-hitter of the season. Ronel Blanco blanked the Toronto Blue Jays 10-0 on April 1.
Arrighetti, 24, entered the contest with a 6-11 record and 4.94 ERA.
The Astros have had 17 no-hitters in their history, including their combined no-hitter against the Phillies in Game 4 of the 2022 World Series.
